In one memorable scene from my 2005 wedding video, a collection of rainbow-outfitted guests are standing in the courtyard of the stately hotel we chose for our special day.

My (now ex)-husband and I had yet to emerge from the flowerful room in which our marital fate had just been sealed. We didn’t see the cool May breeze sending carefully-arranged skeins of hair into glossy lips, and setting feathered fascinators askew.
